The Goodwood Revival declared public utility

by the Classic Days

Classic Days were present the 18th, 19th and 20th of September at the Goodwood Revival and as we stayed speechless, here is a hardly articulated small preview.

Make you live this atmosphere, this feeling, by proxy, it is impossible. The Goodwood Revival is indictable as the feeling of entering in an enchanted interlude is strong. The time is stopped, complicity and simplicity are everywhere. All is relaxation, smile, joy of living and shared happiness.

Of course, you will understand that it was the first time we were on this promised land. During our humbles lives, we walked throughout all top events on earth (Formula 1, Soccer & Rugby World Cup, Tour de France, Le Bourget aeronautics, Rolland Garros…). Never, Ô never, we have been fooled like this!

We first have to point out the quality of this exceptional organization: indeed, it is a common place to praise the organizer of such a great meeting but objectively, here is a real lesson.
Everything is planned, measured, carefully optimized, anticipated… Almost perfect! And all in a relaxed atmosphere with smile on the lips (even the watchmen smile…) and joy in the hearts.

To properly address Goodwood, a little of history is needed. In 1948, GI’s leading the way with their Jeep, the Duke Richmond & Gordon organized the first’s competitions at the Goodwood track. These will be held until 1966. For this reason, the technical regulation of the Formula 1 changes: the engines went from 1.5 to 3 litres. The infrastructures are then considered sufficiently safe. Formula 1 will not come at Goodwood in 1966. The circuit still holds few races, Formula 2 in particular and then will stop any competition after 1966.

In 1998, The Duke Richmon & Gordon and is son, Lord March, deciding that it is time to revive this circuit become legendary: it is the birth of the Revival. But this Revival is not regular cause each year it is a back in time and the circuit is projected in 1966… As if nothing had ever stopped. Time has had no control over this site..

No cars after 1966 is permitted on the confine of the circuit, whether competing or not. A dress code is mandatory for all participants and strongly recommended for spectators. Jacket and tie are required in the paddock and the headgear strongly recommended for men and women.

On each certification you can read: “Gentlemen are required to wear jacket with ties or cravats in the paddock. Hats for both men and women are encouraged”.

Spectators play the game, beyond any hope, creating a wonderful atmosphere. In addition to respect the dress code, most of them come dressed in period. Magic is perfect. The perfection and attention to the details push Lord March and his team to decline in vintage all visual, signage, certifications, commercial vehicles, cabs… and all members of the organization… and to welcome 150 000 persons over 3 days, they are many!

At the Goodwood Revival, all is exceptional.

The series of competition are the absolute dream, each detail has been carefully optimized and transports you. It is difficult to realize this and, you will feel, really difficult to express. We can only strongly encourage you to get there. Until then, here is a meagre glimpse who will attempt to pass you on this magic week-end we experienced.

We also take this opportunity to thank and congratulate once again all the team of the organization, professionals and volunteers, Lord March and his team.

Thanks for welcoming us and giving us such a great moment.

Lord March and Buzz Aldrin
